Dialectical Behavior Therapy

DBT helps clients build interpersonal skills and develop skills to regulate their emotions.

Developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan, DBT is an evidence-based therapeutic approach specifically designed to help individuals who experience intense emotions and struggle with self-destructive behaviors, including substance use disorders. By integrating cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices, DBT provides clients with the skills needed to regulate their emotions, improve relationships, and achieve lasting recovery.

DBT is founded on the principle of dialectics, which involves balancing acceptance and change. This approach acknowledges the difficulties clients face while encouraging them to adopt healthier behaviors. Our DBT program is structured around four core modules: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Each module equips clients with practical tools to manage their emotions and interactions more effectively, fostering a stable and balanced approach to life.

Mindfulness is the cornerstone of DBT, teaching clients to become more aware of the present moment and to observe their thoughts and feelings without judgment. This practice helps individuals gain greater control over their reactions and reduce impulsive behaviors. Through mindfulness exercises, clients learn to stay grounded and focused, even in stressful situations, enhancing their ability to make thoughtful and deliberate choices.

What is DBT?

Clients learn techniques for asserting their needs, setting boundaries, and maintaining healthy relationships. These skills enhance clients' ability to interact positively with others, reducing interpersonal conflicts and fostering supportive connections that are essential for recovery.

Our DBT program includes both individual therapy and skills training groups, providing a comprehensive and supportive environment for clients to learn and practice these skills. Individual therapy sessions offer personalized guidance and support, while group sessions provide opportunities for clients to share experiences and learn from one another. This combination ensures that clients receive the benefits of both one-on-one attention and peer support.

At our addiction recovery center, we are committed to providing holistic and effective care through Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Our skilled therapists work closely with clients to help them balance acceptance and change, regulate their emotions, and build healthier relationships. Through the power of DBT, we empower individuals to overcome addiction and create a more stable and fulfilling future.
